Orioles shortstop Freddy Galvis limped off the field after suffering an apparent leg injury on a bunt single in the second inning of Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
After signing a one-year deal with Baltimore this offseason, Galvis, 31 has provided a veteran presence in the clubhouse and a consistent one on the infield. Entering Saturday, Galvis had manned shortstop for about 88% of the Orioles’ defensive innings.
The Orioles’ young starters are “trying to survive” the majors, Brandon Hyde said. In sending Dean Kremer to the minors for an extended stay, they’re hoping to improve his chances.
