After taking college arms with their first three picks in this year’s draft, the Orioles took their first position player with their first pick of the second day.
The Orioles selected Austin Hays, a junior outfielder from Jacksonville University, in the third round with the 91st overall pick. Hays hit .350/.406/.655 with 16 homers and 42 RBIs in 54 games as a junior this past season. He transferred to Jacksonville before his sophomore season after playing at Seminole State College, a junior college in Sanford, Fla.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Hays was ranked Baseball America’s 47th-best overall prospect.
