The Orioles have had success against Chris Archer in the past, but they had no answer for the Tampa Bay Rays ace on Monday night at Tropicana Field.
Archer held the Orioles scoreless for 62/3 innings, allowing just five hits, as the Rays beat the Orioles, 2-0, handing them their first shutout loss of the season.
The mighty Orioles lineup — which has practiced uncharacteristic plate discipline this season — struck out 11 times. Five of Archer's first six outs came by strikeout and he finished with 10 strikeouts.
After Monday's loss, the Orioles haven't scored a run in 17 innings, their last run coming in the first inning of their 6-1 loss in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.
