BRADENTON, Fla. – The Orioles’ latest round of cuts announced before Monday’s Grapefruit League game against the Pittsburgh Pirates included the end of top prospect Ryan Mountcastle’s first big league camp.
Mountcastle and fellow first-round pick DJ Stewart were reassigned to minor league camp, and right-hander Alec Asher was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
With the three cuts, the Orioles’ big league camp roster was trimmed to 45 players.
The 21-year-old Mountcastle’s bat played well in his first big league camp as he posted a .292/.320/.667 slash line with three doubles, two homers and five RBIs in 13 Grapefruit League games.
