The Tides outhit the opposing Clippers 11-to-4 at Harbor Park on Sunday and squeaked by with a one-run victory. It could have gone much worse for the Clippers if the Tides didn’t go 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Newly acquired lefty Jason Wheeler kicked things off on the mound and surrendered both earned runs over four innings. Steve Johnson pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth and took home the win. Richard Rodriguez recorded the game’s final five outs, four of which by strikeout, and picked up the save. His ERA is now down to 2.
