When Orioles first base prospect Trey Mancini was assigned back to Double-A Bowie, where he won the batting title last year and solidified himself as one of the organization’s top hitting prospects, everyone said the right thing.
He and manager Gary Kendall said the initial disappointment had given way to an understanding, and neither expected there to be much letdown on the field. His third home run in the first four games of the season makes it look as if they were right.
Mancini clubbed his third home run in four games Monday in the Baysox’ 11-9 win over Erie, and said he’s enjoying the chance to play with the core of last year’s Eastern League champions, even if it’s a level down from where he might have otherwise opened the season.
