Orioles pitching prospect Branden Kline underwent elbow ligament reconstruction surgery Thursday, essentially wiping out his 2016 season.
The procedure, more commonly known as Tommy John surgery, was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Florida.
Kline, a Frederick native and Thomas Johnson High School grad, has dealt with elbow issues this season. He was shelved in late May and received a platelet-rich-plasma injection to take care of the elbow stiffness.
He returned to pitch in instructional league, but left his second outing there last week.
Kline, 24, was 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA in eight starts for Double-A Bowie.
