Orioles pitcher John Means to undergo Tommy John surgery

Baltimore Orioles left-handed pitcher John Means announced on Twitter Saturday that he will undergo Tommy John surgery, likely ending his 2022 season.

"After multiple MRI's it's confirmed that I need Tommy John surgery," Means wrote in a tweet. "I'm obviously disappointed, but more motivated than ever. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to watching what this team can do this year."

Tommy John surgery, also known as ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, is used to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament inside the elbow, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Means, 28, was pulled after his second start this season with discomfort in his left elbow against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 13.
