Left-hander T.J. McFarland, who was making his third start since being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, left with an apparent injury after the first inning of the Tides' game Friday at Syracuse.
Showalter said McFarland suffered a knee injury while covering home plate in the first inning. McFarland finished the inning, but did not return for the second. Showalter said head trainer Richie Bancells would get an update when the Tides' game ended.
“If T.J. McFarland had to leave the game, we take it that it's probably serious,” Showalter said. “I don't know if it's precautionary or what.
