Rookie right-hander Tyler Wilson is better than what he showed Friday night when he allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
He doesn’t throw hard – I saw him hit 92-mph with his fastball, but he’s mainly in the 88-90 range – so he needs to locate if he is going to be effective in the majors.
Scouts usually are dismissive about guys with average stuff, but I talked to one recently who thinks Wilson has what it takes to be in the back-end of a major-league rotation for years.
