It took extra frames for Norfolk and Charlotte to settle the contest, and despite the new minor league extra inning rule where a runner begins on second base every half-inning, it wasn’t until the bottom of the 11th that the tie was broken, with Garabez Rosa delivering a walkoff single.
Though the Tides only got six hits, they were still able to generate enough offense to win, in part thanks to five walks. Meanwhile, Tides pitchers pitched up 16 strikeouts. That included six from starter Tim Melville, who gave up two runs on three hits and three walks in four innings, three from Tanner Scott, and four from Donnie Hart.
