The Tides lost a good, old pitcher’s duel. Jud Fabian homered in the first inning and then the Norfolk bats fell silent. The Jumbo Shrimp responded with a third-inning rally to tie it. No team could push across a run until extra innings. The Tides got the ghost runner to first with one out, but crucial strikeouts by Fernando Peguero and Samuel Basallo doused the rally. In the bottom half, Jacksonville’s Dalvy Rosario stole third base and scored on a groundout.
Brandon Young, recently rumored to be a possible call-up to the big league team, was excellent on the mound, with five one-run innings where he struck out six.
