David Hess started for the Tides and had a strong start despite picking up just three strikeouts. In six innings, Hess allowed three hits and three walks, giving up a lone run in the fourth inning. Three of the six batters to reach base against Hess came in that fourth inning.
The trouble for the Tides came in the seventh and eighth innings as Josh Edgin and Matt Wotherspoon combined to give up five runs in just 1.2 innings. Joely Rodriguez was able to stop the damage, however, and Donnie Hart pitched a scoreless ninth.
