During the same television interview that Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette revealed South Korean outfielder Hyun Soo Kim wasn’t likely to make the Orioles’ Opening Day roster, he said Rule 5 draft pick Joey Rickard had played his way onto the roster and could be the team’s everyday left fielder.
Rickard hasn’t been told that specifically, but Duquette’s comments got back to him Tuesday evening.
“That’s something special,” the 24-year-old Rickard said Wednesday. “That’s definitely something everyone’s taking into consideration. It makes me smile, but then again, it’s baseball so you’ve got to go out there and perform and try and stay there.
