The Orioles' lengthy search for a new pitching coach ended Tuesday with the announcement that longtime Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell will join the organization in that same role. Alan Mills, who has been the pitching coach for the Orioles' Double-A affiliate in Bowie, will be the bullpen coach.
McDowell, an 11-year major league reliever who spent the last 11 years coaching in Atlanta, replaces Dave Wallace, who retired from major league coaching at the end of the 2016 season and is now in an advisory role with the Braves.
Until the Braves' recent rebuilding effort and depletion of its major league roster, McDowell oversaw a group that was perennially among the best in the National League.
