Orioles right-hander Mike Wright entered Tuesday’s Grapefruit League start coming off his best outing of the spring, but he couldn’t duplicate that strong performance against the Minnesota Twins at Hammond Stadium.
The elements didn’t help Wright, who gave up a wind-aided two-run homer to Joe Mauer in the first inning of the Orioles 5-1 loss to the Twins. After holding the New York Yankees scoreless for five innings on Friday, Wright allowed three runs on five hits over four innings to Minnesota on Tuesday afternoon.
“I gave up some runs, yes,” Wright said.
