This one had an ugly start. And unfortunately the rest of the game was like the start too.
The first two Yankee batters of the the game — DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit — reached base on singles. Then David Hess fell behind Gary Sanchez 3-0 before managing to get the count full. But Sanchez deposited the seventh pitch of the at-bat into the seats in left, giving the Yanks a quick 3-0 lead.
While Hess needed 28 pitches to get through the top of the first, Yankees’ starter Domingo German only needed 13 pitches to dispatch of the Orioles in the bottom half of the inning.
