closer Zach Britton’s American League-record consecutive save streak ended in the ninth inning of the Orioles’ bullpen breakdown against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday afternoon.
Britton allowed two runs in the ninth inning as the Orioles were unable to hold a five-run lead going into the seventh inning.
He had converted 60 straight save opportunities and hadn’t blown a save in nearly two seasons, his last one coming on Sept. 20, 2015.
Despite missing most of the first half of the season with a left forearm strain, Britton was 11-for-11 on save opportunities this season before Wednesday.
