A day ahead of the deadline to tender contracts to their arbitration-eligible players, the Orioles avoided that process with catcher Pedro Severino, who agreed to a $1.825 million salary for 2021, according to an industry source with knowledge of the deal.
The agreement, which comes before Wednesday’s deadline to tender contracts to players with enough service time to qualify for raises through the salary arbitration process, keeps the Orioles catching corps intact with Chance Sisco and Austin Wynns still under club control as well.
Severino, who was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals the week before the 2019 season began, spent the past two seasons as the Orioles’ primary catcher.
