When Brady Anderson was dealt to the Orioles just before the 1988 trade deadline, his connections to Maryland were loose. He was born in Silver Spring, but he lived in Maryland no more than a year. He grew up in Southern California and called the West Coast his home. At the time of the deal, Anderson viewed being made expendable by the Boston Red Sox, who drafted him and who he idolized as a kid, as a failure.
But Anderson went on to play the next 13 years of a 15-year major league career with the Orioles, becoming one of the best five-tool outfielders in franchise history.
