The Orioles have added another power bat to their already stacked batting order, agreeing to terms with free-agent slugger Pedro Alvarez on a one-year deal, according to industry sources.
The deal, which was first reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune, is pending a physical. Alvarez is expected to report to the team’s spring training complex in Sarasota on Tuesday.
Alvarez will make $5.75 million this season and could earn an additional $1.5 million in incentives, according to an MLB Network report.
The club has been linked to Alvarez -– who has averaged nearly 28 homers over the past four seasons -- since early this offseason when it became likely that he wouldn’t be tendered a contract by the Pittsburgh Pirates in early December, but the Orioles didn’t know where he’d bat in their lineup.
