Orioles agree to minor league deal with veteran outfielder Colby Rasmus

The Orioles agreed with former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Colby Rasmus on a one-year minor league deal Wednesday, pending a physical, according to an industry source.

Last week, the club surveyed left-handed-hitting outfielders who could be signed on low-risk minor league deals, and Rasmus’ name led a group that also included the likes of Melky Cabrera, Jon Jay, Melky Cabrera, Carlos González and Michael Saunders.

Rasmus, 31, emerged from that pack as the leading candidate for the Orioles, mainly because if healthy he has the potential to help the team’s outfield defense, something that’s been an offseason priority.
