The Orioles today added pitching depth, acquiring left-hander Kyle Lobstein from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Triple-A reliever Zach Phillips.
Lobstein, who was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday, had a 3.96 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Pirates. He has spent most of the year at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he shuttled between the rotation and bullpen with a 4.11 ERA in 19 appearances (six starts)
Left-hander Ashur Tolliver, who in the last week returned from a hamstring injury to rejoin Triple-A Norfolk, was designated for assignment, the team announced.
The move comes on the last day players can be traded after passing through or being claimed on waivers, with only players in an organization by midnight tonight eligible for the postseason roster.
