Orioles add former first-round pick DJ Stewart ahead of Oakland series; Carroll recalled

The Orioles added former first round pick DJ Stewart to their expanded September roster ahead of Tuesday’s series opener with the Oakland Athletics, their latest move to get a look at some of the young players who spent this season in the high minors.

Stewart, 24, was the team’s 2015 first-round pick but struggled upon his promotion to Triple-A this year, batting .235 with a .716 OPS and a dozen home runs in 116 games.

He’ll join an outfield mix that also includes Cedric Mullins, John Andreoli, Trey Mancini, and Joey Rickard all vying for playing time while the team tries to find a graceful way of handling Adam Jones.
