Oriole Park Awarded LEED Gold Certification

The Baltimore Orioles and Maryland Stadium Authority on Monday announced that the U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Oriole Park at Camden Yards LEED Gold certification.

It's the first existing Major League Baseball facility to get the distinction. Marlins Park in Miami was LEED Gold certified when it was built. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The B&O Warehouse was awarded LEED Silver, the same status given in 2008 to Nationals Park in Washington.

The recognition reflects year-round sustainable activities and practices like waste management, recycling, paperless tickets and smart energy consumption. The Orioles have more than 200 recycling containers in the park and encourage fans to walk, bike or take mass transit to the game.
