After one of his most ineffective starts of the season two weekends ago in Tampa Bay, Orioles right-hander Yovani Gallardo met with pitching coach Dave Wallace and bullpen coach Dom Chiti and expressed a frustration that had been mounting over his past few starts.
In that game, Gallardo allowed 12 baserunners in five innings, including seven in his first two innings, and a better offensive team might have knocked him out of the game earlier. Once again, he found himself nibbling around the plate too much instead of being aggressive, which led to falling behind in counts, and more times than not, walks that ended up hurting him and shortening his outings.
