Hello, friends.
Today’s Bird Droppings comes with a simple guarantee: The Orioles will not be perfect gamed today. The biggest reason that I know this is that the O’s have the day off today. It doesn’t matter that they got eight innings towards what would have been the first ever combined perfect game yesterday. Check out Drew Bonifant’s recap for some not-so-lovely totals.
That bit of near-history aside, it was a busy weekend in Birdland. The first trade of the deadline season was announced suddenly between games of Saturday’s doubleheader. In practically the blink of an eye, Andrew Cashner went from being the Orioles biggest dugout cheerleader and one of only two real mainstays in the rotation, to the Red Sox, in exchange for a couple of 17-year-old Dominican Summer League prospects, Elio Prado and Yoelberth Romero.
