Matusz suspension upheld, Orioles activate Wieters, designate Cabrera among flurry of moves

The Orioles made a flurry of roster moves before Friday's series opener against the Indians.

It hasn't been announced yet by Major League Baseball, but Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz's eight-game suspension for an having an alleged foreign substance on his right forearm is bring upheld following an appeal on Wednesday, according to an industry source.

That's interesting, especially because Brewers reliever Will Smith's suspension was reduced from eight games to six following his appeal. The Orioles thought Matusz's case for a reduced sentence was better than Smith's.

Matusz would begin having to serve his suspension immediately, which explains why the Orioles have purchased the contract of left-handed reliever Cesar Cabral from Triple-A Norfolk.
