Even as catcher Matt Wieters worked his way back slowly from elbow soreness that shut him down for a few days early this spring, manager Buck Showalter said that the true sign that he’d be ready for Opening Day would be if he catches in a Grapefruit League game.
Weather permitting, that will happen Tuesday night, as Wieters is in the lining catching and batting second for the Orioles’ 6:05 p.m. game against the Atlanta Braves at Ed Smith Stadium.
The game is threatened by rain, but if they get it in, Wieters said it would be one of two he plays before camp breaks on Thursday evening.
