The Orioles, conversely, signed Matt Harvey with the dream that a low-cost spring pickup might pan out. If not, they’d at least have a veteran arm to run out every fifth game no matter how dire things got as they tried to protect the arms that could be part of their future.
That protection, though, is coming at a cost. Wednesday’s 10-2, done-from-the-start defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays before 7,457 fans at Camden Yards was Harvey’s 10th loss of the season.
