Orioles first baseman Mark Trumbo avoided salary arbitration Thursday, agreeing to a one-year, $9.15 million contract, according to an industry source.
Trumbo, who was acquired from the Seattle Mariners with left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser for catcher Steve Clevenger on Dec. 2, is the first of eight Orioles who filed for salary arbitration to settle.
ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick first reported the agreement.
The salary arbitration process determines the salary for players who are under team control but are not signed to long-term contracts. If the team and player can’t agree on contract terms, an independent panel hears the case.
