NEW YORK -- Orioles slugger Manny Machado certainly had been getting some good-natured ribbing from close friend Jonathan Schoop. The pair's well-documented friendly rivalry evened back up on Friday, as Machado hit his first homer of the season in the first inning at Yankee Stadium.
The free-agent-to-be, who answered questions about potentially wearing pinstripes prior to Thursday's series opener, sent CC Sabathia's 1-0 sinker into the left-field seats to put the Orioles up one out into the game. Machado, who matched Schoop at one homer apiece, also picked up his first RBI of the season in what has been a very slow start for most of the O's lineup.
