Julia Ruth Stevens, the last surviving child of Babe Ruth, died early Saturday morning at an assisted-living facility in Henderson, Nev., of complications following a pulmonary embolism, said her son, Tom Stevens. She was 102.
Mrs. Stevens had written “A Daughter’s Portrait” and other books about her father, and had appeared at countless events on his behalf at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., and elsewhere around the country, including Baltimore. She was always proud to represent Ruth, a native Baltimorean who was one of baseball’s all-time greats, Mr. Stevens said.
