In what could be his final start as an Oriole, left-hander Wei-Yin Chen threw six scoreless innings as the Orioles beat the New York Yankees, 9-2, in the first game of Saturday’s split doubleheader.
A pending free agent this winter after four seasons with the Orioles, Chen walked off the mound with two runners on base and no outs in the seventh to hearty applause from the announced 29,227 at Camden Yards, a crowd that was actually much smaller for a game that was rescheduled after Friday night’s rainout.
Reliever Brad Brach allowed both inherited runners to score, ruining the Orioles' shutout bid, but Chen still picked up the victory, his 11th of the season and 46th of his Orioles career.
