The Orioles made it official today, placing right-handed starter Miguel Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin that forced him from Tuesday’s game in the fifth inning.
In a corresponding move, the Orioles recalled right-hander Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk; he was supposed to start for the Tides on Friday.
Gonzalez’s next turn in the rotation is Sunday at Camden Yards against the New York Yankees. Wright immediately becomes the obvious choice to take that start, but it’s likely Wright will be available in the bullpen for the Orioles this weekend. If he is not used, then he’ll likely start against the Yankees.
