Early Orioles notes: David Hess optioned to Triple-A Norfolk; third-round pick Blaine Knight signs

The Orioles optioned rookie right-hander David Hess to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday to make 25-man roster space for right-hander Dylan Bundy’s return from the disabled list.

Hess’ time with the Orioles was a mixed bag. He had a 2-5 mark with a 6.06 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) with the major league team.

He initially performed well in filling Chris Tillman’s rotation spot when Tillman went on the DL with a lower back strain, recording quality starts in four of his first five outings.
