Chris Davis was scratched from the Orioles’ starting lineup for Monday’s series opener in Seattle with what Showalter described as an illness.
“It was my decision,” Showalter said. “Chris is under the weather. There’s a bug going around. He was in the lineup, willing to try to play. Just don’t like how he’s feeling.”
Trey Mancini started at first base for Davis, and newly recalled catcher Chance Sisco filled in Mancini’s spot as the team’s starting designated hitter.
“It gives Sisco a chance to get some at bats and it’s just not worth [him playing sick],” Showalter said.
