For the first time in nearly a month, the Orioles won a game that their ace, Corbin Burnes, started, beating the Mariners 6-3 at Camden Yards on Sunday afternoon.
Burnes was tremendous. Over six innings he allowed just one run on seven hits and one walk while striking 11, tying the season high he set back on Opening Day.
The former Cy Young winner had everything working. His cutter maxed out at 97.3 mph, and both his curve and slider were racking up the whiff rate, 71% (5 of 7) and 88% (7 of 8), respectively. The Mariners hitters had no real shot.
