The Baltimore Orioles starting pitching staff has been a problem for years. In 2018, the Orioles ranked dead last in Major League Baseball in runs allowed per game by starting pitchers, allowing 5.51 runs per game.
One could argue the team has had just two real aces in Chris Tillman and Erik Bedard since losing Mike Mussina to the Yankees in 2001. Even then, neither pitcher was able to experience sustained success in the league. They were just top pitchers on a mediocre to poor pitching staff.
Multiple starting pitchers who have been drafted in the first round by the Orioles have not panned out in Baltimore, or even made it to the major leagues.
