Thursday may be an off day for the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, but news around Major League Baseball has kept fans entertained, even without a World Series game tonight. Today has been a day of managerial news as two more organizations have hired a new manager for 2020, none of those names being former Baltimore Orioles skipper Buck Showalter.
Showalter was considered a favorite to return to coaching with the Philadelphia Phillies, who have elected to go with former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, per MLB.com’s Joe Zolecki. Showalter’s connections with Philadelphia’s front office, including team President Andy MacPhail, weren’t enough to sway the Phillies into bringing him in.
