The Baltimore Orioles designated Joey Rickard for assignment and by doing so added left-handed pitcher Sean Gilmartin.
With John Means injured, Dan Straily also designated for assignment and David Hess struggling the Orioles will plug Gilmartin into the starting rotation as he’ll make his first major league outing of 2019 tonight against the Mariners.
Gilmartin is a 29-year-old left-hander who was the Atlanta Braves first-round selection in 2011. Unfortunately he never lived up to his high expectations as he never did pitch for the Braves.
