This Orioles season has provided little in the way of happy memories. On Friday, you can remember the good times.
Hosted by Peabody Heights Brewery, “The Bird is the Word: Orioles Magic from the Archives” will feature rare archival footage from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive’s WJZ-TV collection. The free screening will showcase four decades of Orioles baseball, from the start of their glory days in the 1960s through the construction of Camden Yards in the early ’90s.
The event also will show a short segment on the Baltimore Elite Giants, a Negro league team that played at the site of the brewery, on 30th Street, as well as footage of Oriole Bird tryouts and an interview with Babe Ruth’s sister.
