The Orioles have listed right-hander Alec Asher as the starter of Sunday’s series finale against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park, skipping struggling starter Ubaldo Jimenez’s turn in the rotation.
Asher last pitched on Wednesday, but needed just 24 pitches to throw two scoreless innings. He’s been working entirely in relief since a spot start on May 2 in Boston, posting a 1.23 ERA in 14 2/3 relief innings over a span of seven relief appearances since then.
Asher made two spots starts, both of them quality starts. He held Toronto to one runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and one walk on April 15.
