This week, the Orioles ended their instructional league camp in Sarasota, Florida, which for many of the minor leaguers involved accounted for the only time in 2020 they faced an opponent from another organization.
The cancellation of the minor league season because of the coronavirus pandemic meant a rebuilding organization dependent on the development of its prospects lost a crucial year, but between the work done at the alternate training site in Bowie and more in Florida, the Orioles end 2020 believing “we’ve made the most of this situation,” director of player development Matt Blood said.
“We’ve gotten those players that were able to attend a good amount of practice time, as well as in-game reps,” Blood said.
