Instead, that was the day the coronavirus pandemic shut down the sport, canceling the rest of spring training and delaying the regular season’s start by four months. But that wasn’t the only impact the virus had on Zimmerman.
Zimmermann, who lives in Ellicott City, graduated from Loyola Blakefield and also pitched for Towson, tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, during the Orioles’ intake testing for players at their alternate site in Bowie.
