NEW CASTLE, Ind. — From the Yorktown sideline, the reality that the season was coming to an end began to sink in a few minutes before the final buzzer sounded in the sectional semifinal game.
Looking up at the scoreboard after a timeout with 2:17 left, the Tigers' players, coaches and fans saw Jay County leading 59-50. They needed some points fast, but — as was the case most of the fourth quarter — for every basket Yorktown scored, Jay County responded with a bucket of its own.
Senior forward Savannah Baker entered the game with 1:13 left, wiping tears from her eyes as she jogged onto the court.
