PERU, Ind. — No one could touch Caitlin LaFerney in the circle.
Yorktown softball's ace notched arguably the best performance of her career with the junior's first seven-inning complete-game shutout. She tied her career high in strikeouts (15) and yielded just two hits and one walk, never once allowing the opposition to threaten.
LaFerney's stellar showing led her Tigers to an 8-0 regional championship victory over host Peru, the program's second in a row. After a tight sectional title game last Saturday, Tuesday's trophy was won relatively easily.
"It's kind of surreal to think I thought a couple of months ago that my season's over, and now we're going to semistate," LaFerney said.
