ARCADIA, Ind. — Jeff Berger knew whoever scored first Monday was probably going to win, and that the game would be decided by one run.
So as Yorktown’s head softball coach watched a pitchers’ duel unfold between the Tigers’ own Alanah Jones and Guerin Catholic junior Izzy Kemp, Berger wasn’t surprised. Less than a week earlier, after Yorktown topped Hamilton Heights in the sectional semifinals, Berger stayed for a bit to watch the beginning of Guerin Catholic’s semifinal matchup with New Castle. He could tell the Tigers and Golden Eagles were in store for a close one.
