YORKTOWN, Ind. — Nathan McClung can still remember the text he sent after he hopped off a treadmill, back in 2020 right before the pandemic rocked the sports world, to the seniors on his Yorktown boys golf team.
McClung told them he hoped they were able to have their final high school season, but that he wanted them to be prepared for the worst. The Tigers’ head coach felt he could sense the direction of where things were going, hearing those “rumblings in the bushes,” and thought those seniors needed to realize they might lose that year. And then sure enough, just as McClung had worried, the IHSAA eventually canceled spring sports.
