MUNCIE, Ind. — Given the timing of Joel Walton’s retirement announcement this past November, BSU athletic director Beth Goetz and company had a lot of time to talk with members of the volleyball community about who’d fill Walton’s role.
That individual would become just the fourth-ever head coach of a Ball State’s men’s volleyball program that was established as a varsity sport almost six decades ago. That individual would follow a coach in Walton who, when this most recent season concluded, had spent 23 seasons as the Cardinals’ head coach and been around the program much longer.
